A crop top style stports bra tends to have no fastenings and just pulls over the head.  The support comes from compression of the breasts and is how the first sports bras were constructed.  Although these may give enough support for smaller breasts (AA-B cup), for a fuller cup, a more structured sports bra is likely to give better support.

However, a crop top style can be more comfortable for yoga and Pilates where there is more floor work involved, or for lower impact training such as weights or walking.

Crop tops are often a great way to introduce teenagers to sports bras, as many of them come in great colours and look fantastic and as a starter sports bra are ideal as they have a bit more room for growth in.
